Thousand Hills State Park is hosting a Dark Sky Program on Friday, Oct. 23, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Point Shelter, part of a series the park is running again this year in partnership with Truman State University staff. Telescopes will be set up for viewing celestial objects, and visitors are welcome to bring their own equipment, chairs, blankets and binoculars.
The program is free, open to the public, and does not require registration, though it is weather-dependent. The park was certified as an Urban Night Sky Place by DarkSky International in 2024 for its efforts to reduce light pollution. For more information, call the park office at (660) 665-6995.
